American Design Poster
American Design Poster
The poster for the American Design exhibition in Ostend (1954) is one of De Roeck’s favourite posters. The poster illustrates his skills where combining texts and images are concerned and his sense of proportion and aesthetic power. He effortlessly linked into the nature of the assignment and the target audience with this graceful piece of work. Some of the more striking elements are the unreal colours, the typesetting, the overlapping of the images and text, further strengthened by the white contours. These elements have turned this poster into an icon of the nineteen fifties and a collector’s item for design enthusiasts, who were tempted into paying the exhibition in Ostend a visit as a result of this poster.
